A Google Inspired Ticker Symbol?

Its been a couple of weeks since Sun Microsystems changed its stock ticker symbol from SUNW to JAVA. At the time the whole thing seemed a little silly to me. Does Sun really want to tie its entire identity to Java? They are involved in a lot of technology that doesn’t involve Java at all. One definite advantage of using JAVA as its ticker symbol is that whenever someone enters “Java” for a Google search, the stock information for Sun will be returned at the top of the results. This is great marketing for Sun and its stock. Well, I guess as long as the stock price is headed in the right direction, which it has been in the last few months. It would be interesting to find out if the Google search results had anything do with the change in ticker symbol. Or, I’m completely off base and its a not related at all.
