Blog-o-rama

If you track a ton of blogs, I’m sure by now you have found out that when you return from an offline vacation you will have thousands of unread blog posts. Obviously, you can’t read them all in just a few minutes, but its fun trying to make a quick pass through them in twenty minutes or so.

Here are the best three I found tonight:

Is JSF Popular?

Posted by rob on July 16, 2007

I’m getting a kick out of reading the discussion over at Matt Raible’s blog over his latest post. It states that JSF is losing ground and that MyFaces has relatively few downloads in comparison to reigning Java Web framework king of the hill Struts. The number of downloads for MyFaces is listed as about the same as Tapestry and Wicket.

Regardless of whether you agree with Matt’s analysis, I find some of the response to the article interesting.

“Most JSF development actually happens using the JSF distros present in the app server they’re using”

“well with the new appservers and IDE’s nobody needs to download JSF anymore… it’s always included…”

Regardless of downloads, isn’t there still something to say about how JSF hasn’t taken the community by storm? Is it wildly popular and I just don’t know it? There has got to be better arguments for using JSF than “its part of the J2EE spec” or “it comes bundled with the app server”. Maybe being the standard is a kiss of death, but it seems that a great technology in this position would be kickin’ some serious butt.

Now, why did Sun hire the JRuby guys again?
